NINE COLORS OF NAVRATRI AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE

Navratri 2022 begins on September 26, marking the beginning of festivities this month. All Hindus hold significant importance and enthusiasm for this nine to ten-day celebration. It is the time when people engage in healthy eating and fasting and pay obeisance to the divine Goddess Durga with the traditional Garba.

Apart from worshipping Goddess Durga, and playing dandiyas, many people also follow the special colors of Navratri; 9 days and 9 colors that have different significance. 

Many devotees of Goddess Durga take it pretty seriously and wear clothes accordingly. It is believed that doing so brings prosperity, blessings and good luck. 

 

Let us walk you through the 9 colors for each day if you want to follow it too.

DAY 1: ORANGE

The Vibrant and Bright hues of Orange signals the start of the festival. This colour represents warmth and energy. On this day, Hindus worship the goddess Shailputri.

DAY 2: WHITE

The second color of this festival is White, which represents love, peace, and purity. Goddess Brahmacharini stands for love and loyalty.

DAY 3: RED

People wear red colour on the third day of Navratri. It stands for elegance and fearlessness. On this day, Hindus worship the goddess Chandraghanta.

DAY 4: ROYAL BLUE

The color of the fourth day of Navratri is royal blue. This color is used to celebrate goddess Kushmanda, also known as Ashtabhuja Devi, because of the eight hands that she has. Wearing blue-colored clothes and worshipping this goddess during Navratri is believed to improve health, wealth, and strength.

DAY 5: YELLOW

On the fifth day of the festival, people dress in yellow. The color represents happiness and brightness. On Day 5, Hindus worship the goddess Skandamata.

DAY 6: GREEN 

Green symbolizes new beginnings and growth. It is the color of mother nature and goddess Katyayani is celebrated with this color too.

DAY 7: GREY

The color of the seventh day is grey, a color which stands for the strength of transforming. Hindus worship Goddess Kalaratri. She is the seventh form of goddess Parvati and is considered the destructor of everything evil in the world.

DAY 8: PURPLE

Purple is one of the Navratri colors, which represents peace and intelligence and is used to celebrate the goddess Mahagauri. Goddess Mahagauri is the eighth avatar of Durga, and people worship her to get rid of all sufferings in life.

DAY 9: PEACOCK GREEN 

The last day of Navratri is called Navami. Many people perform Kanjak on this day and Goddess Siddharti is worshipped on this day. This color is believed to fulfil all the wishes of devotees.
